Fun Things to Do in San Diego This August—and Meet New Friends While You’re At It

LetsGoGirls San Diego members gathering on the beach at sunset, socializing around a fire pit with blankets and chairs, creating a welcoming atmosphere for friendship, connection, and community.

Making friends as an adult can be weirdly hard. You can live in a city full of people, have coworkers you like, and still find yourself wondering: Where do I actually go to meet women I click with?

If you’re looking for fun things to do in San Diego—and you’d love to meet a few new people while you’re there—Let’s Go Girls has you covered this August.

Our events are designed to make getting out of the house and connecting feel easier. Come with a friend, bring your whole group, or show up solo. You’ll already have something to do or talk about, which means you don’t have to walk into a room and magically invent a conversation.

Here are five San Diego women’s events to add to your August calendar.

Social Media 101

Thursday, August 20 | 5:00–7:00 PM
2535 Camino del Rio South, Suite 205 | $20

If posting on Instagram has somehow become a full-body stress response, this workshop is for you.

Join Alaisja Rodrigues of Social Girl Marketing for a practical, hands-on evening covering how to script Instagram Reels, use a teleprompter without sounding robotic, create content more efficiently, and turn viewers into followers, leads, and clients.

The evening begins with a social hour at 5:00 PM before the workshop starts at 5:30 PM, giving you time to meet other local business owners, Realtors, entrepreneurs, and creators. Bring your phone, your questions, and the Reel idea you’ve been avoiding.

Perfect for: Business owners and creators who want actionable social media guidance and new professional connections.

Paint & Sip: Paint Your Pet

Sunday, August 23 | 11:00 AM–2:00 PM
The Mixer at Liberty Station, 2750 Dewey Road, Suite 193 | $45

Turn your favorite furry friend into a work of art during this relaxed Paint Your Pet afternoon.

Local artist Iris will guide you step by step as you create a personalized portrait of your pet. Your canvas, acrylic paints, brushes, and instruction are all included, and you don’t need any painting experience to join.

This is a particularly easy event to attend solo because everyone has a built-in conversation starter: their pet. You can paint, sip, swap pet stories, and leave with both a keepsake and a few new names in your phone.

After registering, remember to email your pet photo to the address provided in the event listing so your portrait can be pre-sketched.

Perfect for: Pet lovers, creative women, and anyone looking for a low-pressure girls’ day out.

Women in Real Estate Coffee Meetup

Thursday, August 27 | 10:00–11:30 AM
Superbloom, 2688 East Mission Bay Drive | Free

Whether you just earned your real estate license or have been in the industry for years, this monthly coffee meetup gives you a place to connect without the stiff networking energy.

Grab a coffee, talk shop, exchange ideas, and build genuine relationships with other women working in San Diego real estate. It’s casual, welcoming, and completely free to attend.

Perfect for: Women in real estate who want fresh ideas, industry friendships, and local connections.

Bookmark Charm Workshop

Thursday, August 27 | 6:00–8:00 PM
The Mixer at Liberty Station, 2750 Dewey Road, Suite 193 | $20

Calling all book lovers and crafty girls: spend the evening designing a personalized bookmark charm inspired by your own style and favorite stories.

All supplies and step-by-step instruction are included, so you can simply show up, choose your charms, and start creating. No craft experience is needed.

Because you’ll be making something together, conversation happens naturally. It’s a fun option if you want to meet new people but would rather have an activity to focus on than work a crowded room.

Perfect for: Readers, crafty women, and anyone who wants a cozy, creative night out in San Diego.

Clothing Swap

Sunday, August 30 | 12:00 PM

Refresh your closet, give good clothes a second life, and meet other local women at the Let’s Go Girls Clothing Swap.

Bring pieces you no longer reach for and browse what other attendees have brought. It’s a budget-friendly, more sustainable way to try something new—and talking about a great jacket or unexpected find makes starting a conversation easy.

Check the live event calendar for the complete swap guidelines, location, availability, and registration details before attending.

Perfect for: Women who love fashion, sustainable shopping, and the thrill of finding something unexpectedly perfect.

Can I Come to a Let’s Go Girls Event Alone?

Absolutely. Plenty of women come to Let’s Go Girls events solo.

You don’t need to arrive already knowing someone, and you definitely don’t need to be the loudest or most outgoing person in the room. Choose an event that genuinely sounds fun to you, and let the activity create the opening. Ask someone about her pet painting, bookmark charms, business, or clothing-swap find. That first conversation doesn’t have to be profound—it just has to start.

And if bringing a friend makes it easier to walk through the door, do that too. There is no wrong way to join us.

Want More Help Finding Your People in San Diego?

Events are a great way to get out, have fun, and meet women organically. But if you’re ready for a more intentional approach to making friends, Let’s Go Girls Plus (LGG+) brings potential friends directly to you.

Each month, LGG+ thoughtfully matches you with a small group of two to four women based on factors such as your location, interests, lifestyle, and energy.
